چکیده

Since the invention of the internal combustion engine, traffic jams have become an inevitable part of life. ‘One of the problems faced by any transportation system is dealing with changes in traffic congestion’, says Tanya Latty, from the University of Sydney, Australia. ‘Sometimes there are simply more cars on the road than the system can handle’, she explains. And ants frequently face the same dilemma as they scurry along wellestablished odour superhighways that are continually reinforced by use as they forage. However, Latty explains, ‘Food resources can change in quality’, causing congestion as the determined insects have to respond to a change in circumstances. Knowing that the creatures of habit are almost as wedded to their tried and tested routes as we are to tarmac, Latty and Madeleine Beekman wondered whether Argentine ants can track changes in food quality and, if so,whether they could adjust their transport networks to make the most of changes in their circumstances.

Living in flowing water increases resistance to ultraviolet B radiation.

Ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B) is an important environmental driver that can affect locomotor performance negatively by inducing production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Prolonged regular exercise increases antioxidant activities, which may alleviate the negative effects of UV-B-induced ROS. Animals naturally performing exercise, such as humans performing regular exercise or fish living in ...

UV-B exposure reduces locomotor performance by impairing muscle function but not mitochondrial ATP production.

Ultraviolet B radiation (UV-B) can reduce swimming performance by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. High concentrations of ROS can damage mitochondria, resulting in reduced ATP production. ROS can also damage muscle proteins, thereby leading to impaired muscle contractile function. We have shown previously that UV-B exposure reduces locomotor performance in mosquitofish (Gambu...

بررسی فراوانی عینک‌های آفتابی غیراستاندارد عرضه شده توسط دستفروشان شهر تهران سال 89

Abstract Background: Solar light has various electromagnetic radiations include Ultraviolet, Visible & infrared rays. Overexposure to solar ultraviolet radiations can lead to some dangerous disorders and usage of non standard sunglasses can increase foregoing harmful effects. In Iran cataract is the most common disorder produced by UV rays. This study aims to measure the transmission of ultr...

Elevated fluctuating asymmetry in eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki) from a river receiving paper mill effluent.

The present study investigated whether fluctuating asymmetry can serve as a useful biomarker of environmental stress in the eastern mosquitofish (Gambusia holbrooki). Fluctuating asymmetry was measured in sexually mature females sampled from two Florida, USA, coastal streams: The Fenholloway River, which is dominated by effluent from a paper mill, and Spring Creek, a tributary to the Fenhollowa...

Antioxidants Inhibit Subsequent Lipid Production via Sebaceous Gland Cell Differentiation

The sebaceous gland is composed of sebaceous gland cells that accumulate intracellular lipid droplets when undergoing differentiation. The extent of lipid droplet formation within the sebaceous gland cells thus represents their differentiation status. On reaching maturity, the sebaceous gland cells are then destroyed and the intracellular lipids are secreted to the skin surface whereby they for...
